I’m doomed! – 11th June 2001

Monday 11th My driving instructor turned up half an hour early today but luckily I was ready unlike once before. It was quite good today I thought and my instructor said so too. He said I’m much more relaxed and the only things I need to think about doing is checking my mirrors before taking my foot off the accelerator and moving over to the left of the road before turning left at a junction or something. Nothing major anyway.

I did some bay parking at the test centre which was okay after a couple of attempts. He said I got it right the first time I did it which is very unusual. Then I was doing about complex junctions and I think he took me to some but I didn’t really notice cos I’ve been round Warrington loads before. My knee was extremely painful though and I had to get out of the car at one point to straighten my leg.

I can’t revise! I’m a bit worried about the last 4 exams I’ve got to do actually. The biology Health and Disease topic is hard and I don’t really understand it, the geography Managing Human Environments is extremely boring so I can’t take it in and then the 2 sports studies papers are both next week and I haven’t revised for any of it yet and there’s LOADS of it. 😦 I’m doomed!

I really can’t wait until my exams are over but I’ve got my next driving lesson the day after so I’d better not drink too much. Grrr!

Jake came round this evening but we had nothing to do so we decided to go to the cinema at the Trafford Centre. Due to the fact he won’t have a car, apparently his dad has said he’ll pay for taxis etc. so that’s how we got there and back.

We had a total headcase driving us there. He seemed to think he was an Italian Jim Carrey or something and wouldn’t stop talking complete bollocks all the way there. Jake said he’s had him before but perhaps due to alcohol he doesn’t remember the guy being quite so mental last time.

We ended up seeing Get Over It and it was better than we expected. We also tested out some Ben & Jerry’s ice creams which were all very nice. Mmm!

I had to learn about roundabouts. I hate them! – 24th March 2001

Saturday 24th
1 week + 5 days to go!

I had a 3 hour driving lesson today. It was horrible! I haven’t got a concentration span that last anywhere near that long. Plus, to make matters worse, I had to learn about roundabouts. I hate them! I got stuck in the middle of one of the big ones in Warrington with all the traffic lights on and got flustered and couldn’t get going for ages. I could see everyone in cars around me getting pissed off which didn’t help at all. I bet they weren’t perfect when they were learning.

If I ever pass my test, I’m not going to forget what it was like so I’m going to be patient with learners, not put them off. I’ve got another 3 hour lesson next Saturday and I’m dreading it already.

Jake phoned at about 7:40pm today. I didn’t think he was going to cos he said in his email, “no later than 7:30pm” but he said the lesson he shadowed didn’t finish until 12:30pm (his time). He said he got to teach part of the lesson about turning and snowploughs or something.

He’s going to some concert tonight cos there’s some party on or something. I didn’t really know what he was on about but it’s their last Saturday night out (they’ll be doing the Level 2 thing next week so they’ll be having early nights, I expect) so I’d have thought they’ll be making it a god one! Not too good, I hope!

He says he can’t wait to come home. I can’t wait either!

P.S. The clocks go forward tomorrow so that means Jake’s going to be 8 hours behind now. 🙂 He said he’d phone at about 7pm tomorrow but it’ll be 8pm here. He won’t know the clocks change, I suppose.

I only stalled it twice – 11th February 2001

Sunday 11th
7 weeks + 4 days to go!

I’ve been with Jake for ONE WHOLE YEAR!!!

I can’t believe we’ve been together that long. I mean, we met first a week ago today but he only asked me out properly this time last year. I wish he was here 😦 I need a hug!

We’ve been together for a year and I still don’t know what to call him! It seems right to put “Jake” on cards and things cos that’s always how he signs things to me but when I’m speaking to him, I don’t know what he wants to be called!

Ooh, I had my 1st driving lesson this morning! I wasn’t really nervous until I woke up this morning. My lesson was from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and my instructor’s called Charles. He was a bit miserable and talked really slowly but he was alright. I understood what he was saying and he seemed very calm which is good, I suppose! He also teaches Colin McKay who’s in the year below me in college.

The 1st thing I did was sit in the driver’s seat on Hall Drive and he went through what everything inside the car did. Then he let me drive it round the roundabout at the top (where Declan lives) before stopping again to explain the mirrors. I only stalled it twice and he said it was cos I was wearing trainers and the soles were wet and therefore slipping off the clutch cos it was raining.

He let me drive again and I thought he was going to tell me to turn down Hodge Drive where it was quiet but instead I had to go onto Wellington Road! I wasn’t as scared as I thought I might be actually cos I did feel in control! He then made me drive up Crofters Lane and then stop going up the motorway bridge to do a hill start. I managed it quite well so I did a downhill start too!

At the end of the lesson, I parked up Oak Lane and he told me that I’d done well. He said he goes at different paces with different people and that he’d got through a lot with me. I have to say, I felt quite pleased with myself and I did enjoy it!

I wasn’t expecting to go on any main roads though cos everyone else I spoke to said the either did it round quiet housing estates or on car parks.

I spoke to Jake this evening. He was having a day off today cos it’s Sunday. He told me he’s glad I enjoyed my driving lesson and he sounded surprised I’d done so much. We got onto the subject of skiing and I ended up crying a bit cos I really miss him and really want to go skiing. He said he really does want to go skiing with me one day and that I don’t have to worry about him being better than me cos he reckons I’m probably better than a few people on his course.

Hmm, why are they doing it then?!

I mean, I can ski and I’m not bad at it considering I’ve only been twice. I was better than him when I was in Austria anyway! I still think he’d show off and try and tell me what to do if I went skiing with him but I really do want to go again!
